Alto saxophonist and composer Nick Mazzarella’s Meridian Trio performs an original repertoire that explores “inside” and “outside” styles of jazz, equally embracing free improvisation, modal harmonies, blues, and cyclical rhythmic grooves. The group features Matt Ulery on bass and Jeremy Cunningham on drums, each composers and bandleaders in their own right, making this ensemble a showcase for three of the most active musicians in Chicago’s original music scene of the last ten years.
