Originally hailing from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Aren Thompson is a jazz guitarist that has led groups from duos to sextets with a focus on original composition and the communicative nature of jazz. Aren has had the opportunity to record an album of 9 original compositions entitled From There to Now that is available on all streaming platforms.

The Aren Thompson trio is a working jazz trio that reimagines the traditional jazz repertoire — from the Great American songbook to the compositions of modern masters — in a trio context while paying constant homage to the origination of the music. We have a focus on communicative improvisation that is best exhibited by a trio. Each member of the band has an extensive history of playing in Chicago’s vibrant improvised music scene in many different groups.
