Quentin Coaxum showed an affinity for music at a very young age. Upon taking up the trumpet in elementary school, he took a liking to the tapes and records left behind by his grandfather. It was these same recordings that inspired him to take an interest in jazz that would later blossom into a passion for all music. Originally growing up just outside of St. Louis, Missouri, Coaxum currently resides in Chicago, IL, where he is an active composer and musician, emerging as one of Chicago’s most unique voices.

During his time in Chicago, Coaxum has been a featured performer at The Chicago Jazz Festival, The Hyde Park Jazz Festival, and the University of Chicago’s Logan Arts Jazz Series. Coaxum’s first album as a leader, “Current”, was released on the Skiptone Music Label in 2014, and his second album, “You & I” was released in September of 2020.

Coaxum’s most recent project, “Satellite”, is a musical exploration of the personal growth he experienced during a creative hiatus from 2021-2022. With much of the music initially being composed on the Roland SP-404, the voice of each musician takes the lead in an expansive approach to minimalist compositions.
