Originally growing up just outside of St. Louis, Missouri, Quentin Coaxum currently resides in Chicago, IL, where has emerged as one of Chicagoʼs brightest young trumpeters.

During his time in Chicago, Coaxum has been a featured performer at The Chicago Jazz Festival, The Hyde Park Jazz Festival, and the University of Chicago’s Logan Arts Jazz Series. Coaxum’s first album as a leader, “Current”, was released on the Skiptone Music Label. His second album, “You & I, was released independently to critical acclaim in 2020. Most recently, Coaxum is working with his newest project, “Satellite”.

“Satellite” is a sonic exploration of personal growth Coaxum experienced during a creative hiatus from 2021-2022. Shortly after this, Coaxum began experimenting with new compositional techniques using the Roland SP-404 Linear Wave Sampler. The original compositions of this ensemble feature sample-based soundscapes that are elevated with harmonic elasticity and improvisation, giving life to some of Coaxum’s darkest times and most beautiful experiences.

“Satellite” features Quentin Coaxum on Trumpet and SP-404, Dustin Laurenzi on Tenor sax and OP-1, and Jeff Swanson on guitar and effects.
