“Mxmrys (pronounced “Memories,”) is a jazz/experimental quartet hailing from the Southside of Chicago. They began their musical journey together at Chicago High School for the Arts, and they have individually shared stages with acts like Najee, Joel Ross, Nico Segal, Kaina, and Ravyn Lenae. However, the onset of the 2020 pandemic marked a turning point; weary of their roles as supporting musicians, they united with a renewed focus on originality. “We all had fatigue and we all wanted to come together and create something of our own”, says Ross. So over the next few years, they poured their collective creativity into crafting their debut EP, “Black Void Theory,” which was released on March 8th, 2024. Mxmrys tries to capture a sound that encapsulates their experiences growing up in Chicago. Known for their eclectic and soulful original instrumentals, the group has recently been performing all around Chicago at historic venues such as Sleeping Village, The Promontory, Lincoln Hall, Dorian’s, The Hideout, and The California Clipper.”
